BREAKING NEWS!!!!
HEAL Romania has received a cheque for £20 000 from Charlton Kings Baptist Church. The members of the church have faithfully supported us for many years and would love to see our dream of opening a day centre realised. In February Leanda went to Bucharest to view an apartment. It is in the poorest area and the parents in that area have been begging us to help them. On returning to England the trustees transferred £22 000 and we have just heard that the documents have been accepted and the apartment is ours! Leanda plans to return to Bucharest in May and we are hoping to open a day centre in the apartment in September 2011. The trustees would like to send our sincere thanks to the members of Charlton Kings Baptist Church for believing in our work and supporting us so generously. It would not have been possible without your help.
Mariana
Mariana used to live with her husband and three children in a wooden shack hidden in a field. Eventually we found a woman who had two spare rooms in her house that were very run down. After a lot of renovations the family moved in at the end of the summer of 2008. Mariana’s husband (Ionut) has been released from prison for non-payment of taxes. He is looking for work and also helping us to decorate the apartment so that we will be able to open the day centre on time. Mariana goes to work now that we have found places for her children in school and kindergarten. Due to the economic crisis all government allowances were suspended for two months. This was a very difficult time for all of our families and put extra strain on our budget. All of the files now have to be resubmitted to begin claiming benefits again.

Sluser Family
There are 7 members in the Sluser family and in 2007 they all lived in one room. In the summer of 2008 they built an extra room and a kitchen with the help of HEAL Romania. Mr Sluser can only find temporary work so works when he can. Ana Doina managed to find them another heating oven so that it is warm in both of their rooms now. HEAL Romania continues to provide food and medicines for this family.
Circiumaru Family
Mrs Circumaru is now able to support herself and her family. We only intervene with the occasional help when necessary.
Popa Family
This family no longer need our assistance. We will continue to take Laurentu to the dentist as he needs it.
Hoca Family
As we are no longer assisting two families, we have decided to take on a new family. Mrs Hoca has 8 children (when Leanda visited she was in hospital giving birth to her eighth child). Mr Hoca works far away from Bucharest and comes home whenever he can. Mrs Hoca’s mother also lives with them. They have two rooms in an extremely run down house. The family are very poor and are desperate for any help they can get. Ana Doina visits them monthly bringing food and clothes. They have also received blankets knitted by Mrs Stagg.
